I had to purchase physical copies of Mike Meyers A+ books a while back for a class and I enjoyed reading those. I decided to check out the newer editions since the test itself has changed and I am glad to see that this version of the book is just as good. I bought it for my kindle and it was a pain to read because the screen is just really too small for a book like this. Thankfully there is now a Kindle application for PC’s and reading it on my computer is excellent. The only downside to this particular edition is that we do not receive the disks with the practice questions. I am not aware if there is some route I could take to get these (like go to the website and see if I could have some mailed to me etc.). If there is, it would be nice to see this somewhere in the product description or in the e-book itself. Other than that I think this is an excellent product.

Eight years ago I purchased my first A+ book written by Mike Meyers. I wasn’t taking a test, but I was promoted at work and put in charge of an IT group that serviced 750 users in 10 or more locations. I was always interested in Computers, so I bought that book just to quickly get up to speed on the latest & greatest as well as learn the buzzwords. The most important reason was so I could speak to my staff on a closer level to them than I was before.
Well, 8 years later, I now need the A+ certification as I rejoin the job search market. I don’t need to sell you on Certification programs, but I will tell you that Mike Meyers is the King of this stuff. Mike takes the most intimidating topics and breaks them down into easy to understand blocks of information and then marries it all together with ease.
You know when they say that someone has found their place in life, what they love to do above everything else? Well, Mike has found that place and we’re lucky enough that he knows how to write.
Everything is laid out and put together so well! I don’t mean to offend, but if you read this book cover to cover and use the extras on the CD, you would have to be the least sharp ax in the shed not to pass the exam.

I received the book on time and it was in the condition stated. I have not begun classes so I can not rate the content yet.

I have to say I’m really impressed with this book. I used a Sybex manual (ISBN 978-0-4700-4830-6 – superb) to pass the A+ test, but am reading this one for a college course. The writing style is effortless and fun to read. One thing I really like is the historical/conceptual section of each chapter–random facts make more sense and are easier to remember when put into context. The authors also did a superb job of explaining the Northbridge, Southbridge, address bus, etc. Examples such as the ‘man in a black box’ really help visualize what’s going on.
Another nice touch is the keywords at the end of the chapter, which have the page number where it’s discussed. When you flip to the page, the keyword is even highlighted. Very nice and quick!
I like this book so much that I’m gonna check out other titles in the Mike Meyers’ series.
As a side note, though, I looked at a M. M. Passport A+ book a while back and wasn’t as impressed. It was too condensed–more like trying to digest an outline.
